My work in drawing and painting is usually done directly from the subject – I am interested in space, light, and color, as well as the implications of the subject matter. My work in printmaking is more removed from this directness but allows for further development and simplification of an image. I also enjoy taking photographs and experimenting with alternative methods of recording and reproducing an image.
My charcoal drawings are for me a happy medium of combining the immediacy of working from a subject on the spot, with the flexibility of emphasis that I find in painting and drawing.
